Why fly private from Miami to Cancún

  • About two hours from Opa-locka Executive to Cancún International, one of the shortest international private flights from South Florida, with no airline terminal at either end.

  • The Mayakoba resorts in Playa del Carmen are about 45 minutes south of Cancún airport. Arriving by private jet means you reach your resort rested rather than worn out by a commercial terminal.

  • Tulum's boutique hotels and beach clubs have made it one of the most sought-after destinations in Mexico. A private flight and a car waiting at the aircraft suit its relaxed pace.

  • Spring break and the New Year holidays fill commercial flights and hotels early. Private aviation gives you flexible dates and the option to plan late, subject to aircraft availability.

  • Cancún's private aviation terminal handles customs and immigration separately from the busy commercial terminals, and your ground transfer can be arranged before you land.

Airports and FBOs

Opa-locka Executive (OPF) is the usual Miami departure for Mexico, with FBOs used to international departures and an easy drive from Brickell, South Beach and Coral Gables. Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE) is the alternative for Broward and Palm Beach County. Cancún International (CUN) handles both airline and private traffic; private flights use a separate general aviation terminal with customs, immigration and ground transport on site. From CUN it is about 20 minutes to the Hotel Zone, 45 minutes to Playa del Carmen and 90 minutes or more to Tulum by road.

Flying back from Cancún to Miami

The return from Cancún to Opa-locka takes about the same two hours. Departure formalities are handled at the private terminal, so allow a little time for customs before boarding. Empty-leg options are fairly common on this corridor, especially around the end of holiday periods. We can also route you back to Miami International or Fort Lauderdale, or add Cozumel or Mérida to the trip.

Frequently asked questions

How long is a private jet from Miami to Cancún?

From Opa-locka Executive (OPF) or Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE) to Cancún International (CUN), the flight usually takes about 1 hour 50 minutes to 2 hours 10 minutes, depending on aircraft and winds. Customs is handled at the private terminal on arrival.

How much does a private jet from Miami to Cancún cost?

The price depends on the aircraft size, the dates (spring break and the holidays are busiest), one-way versus round trip and repositioning. Light and midsize jets cover this short route comfortably. See the market estimate on this page; your quote confirms the exact price.

Which Miami airport is best for private jets to Cancún?

Opa-locka Executive (OPF) is the usual choice: good private terminals, convenient for Miami and South Beach, and used to international departures to Mexico. Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE) is a good alternative if you are coming from Broward or Palm Beach County.

Can I fly directly to Tulum by private jet?

Tulum's newer international airport (TQO) accepts some private flights, and its services are still developing. We check current private aviation access when you book. Cancún remains the standard arrival for most trips, with a road transfer of about 90 minutes or more to Tulum.

When is the best time to visit Cancún and Tulum by private jet?

November through April is the dry high season. Spring break and the New Year holidays are the busiest weeks. Summer is warm and brings whale shark season near Holbox, while hurricane risk is highest from August to October, so we plan with the forecast in mind.

Can I combine Cancún with Cozumel or Mérida on one trip?

Yes. Cozumel is a very short flight from Cancún, ideal for snorkeling and diving, and Mérida is easy to add for colonial architecture and nearby archaeological sites. We coordinate the extra legs, customs and ground transport into a single itinerary.
