Flying Private to Art Basel Miami Beach: A Planning Guide

Miami and Brickell skyline across Biscayne Bay during Art Basel week

Art Basel Miami Beach usually takes over the first week of December, and with it come the satellite fairs, the private dinners and some of the busiest days of the year at South Florida's private airports. If you are flying in, a little planning makes the week far easier.

When to book

Book your flight as early as you can, ideally by early November. Aircraft availability tightens, and so does ramp space at the airports closest to Miami Beach. Arrivals cluster around the VIP preview days and departures cluster at the end of the week, so the earlier you lock in times, the more choice you have.

Which airport to fly into

  • Opa-locka Executive (OPF) is the usual choice for Miami Beach and the Design District.
  • Miami International (MIA) works for larger aircraft and some international arrivals.
  • Fort Lauderdale Executive (FXE) is a good alternative when Miami ramps are full, especially if you are staying north of the Beach.

Your advisor confirms ramp space and arrival times with the FBO before you book, so there are no surprises on the day.

Getting around during the week

Traffic between Miami Beach, the Design District and Wynwood is the biggest time cost of the week. Many clients book a car and driver for the whole stay. Some go a step further and use a yacht as a base on the bay for dinners and receptions; our sister company, Altrove Yachts, can arrange that alongside the flight.

Flying in from New York, Dallas or Houston

From Teterboro, the flight to Miami usually takes about 2.5 to 3 hours. From Dallas or Houston, plan on about 2.5 to 3 hours. A midsize or super-midsize jet suits most groups; heavy jets make sense for larger parties or anyone continuing to Europe after the fair.

A simple planning checklist

  • Lock in your flight and arrival time by early November.
  • Confirm the airport closest to where you are staying.
  • Book ground transport for arrival day and the busiest evenings.
  • Plan your return flight at the same time as the arrival.
  • If you are hosting clients, consider a yacht or private venue on the water.

Altrove Jets is not affiliated with Art Basel. VIP fair access is by gallery invitation; we can arrange hospitality and events on request, subject to availability. See flight times and market estimates on our Private Jet to Art Basel Miami Beach page (altrovejets.com/events/art-basel-miami).
